The Livingston High School girls’ track team took first place in the recent Super Essex Conference championships.The Lancers placed in 14 of 16 events, scoring an impressive 130 points to secure the team championship in a battle over second place Montclair High School, which finished with a very strong 126.5 points. West Orange High School, East Orange High School and Columbia High School rounded out the top five teams in the always-rugged American Division of the Conference.The Lancers were led by captains Summer Yung and Maggie Siao and freshman Darcy Bialick, who each scored in four events. The Lancers crowned two individual Conference champions, as Siao won the 400 intermediate hurdles and Erica Wang won the javelin.The Lancers, who recently completed their dual meet season with a perfect record of seven wins and no losses in the American Division of the SEC, were eagerly anticipating the championship meet, in which they were seeded fourth.The team was off to a strong start, with Siao and Bialick finishing first and third, respectively, in the 400 meter hurdles.In the 1,600 meter run, Bridget Gulfo, Avery Reiman, and Arthi Mampilly finished fourth, fifth and sixth.In the 400 meter dash, Jadyn Kestenbaum secured fourth place for the Lancers, and Yung, Bialick and Siao finished fourth, fifth and sixth in the high hurdles. The team continued to battle for every point as Taylor Dannis, Kayla Felner and Mampilly crossed the line in third, fourth, and sixth place in the 800 meter, with Gulfo, Sydney Leigh and Sophia Yan securing fourth, fifth and sixth place in the 3,200 meter.With such strong performances being turned in on the track and the team piling on the points in the Field events Livingston, Montclair and West Orange were often exchanging the lead after each event. The team scored 18 points in the pole vault with Yung, Jessica Su and Erica Wang finishing second, third and fourth, and then added 22 points in the javelin with Wang, Jessica Oji and Raquel Silva finishing an impressive first, second, and fourth.Oji added to the point total with a third place finish in the shot put, while in the jumping arenas, Bialick and Siao finished third and fifth in the high jump.
