The Livingston High School girls’ varsity tennis team opened its season by winning three of five matches. The Lancers defeated Caldwell, Morristown, and Glen Ridge, while losing to Montclair KimberleyAcademy and J.P. The singles line-up of Rachel Shukhman, Rebecca Liu, andAnoushka Dhawan won in straight sets, while Chloe Lee, Ryan King,Addison Sultan, and Zoe Weisman recorded straight set doubles victories. Shukhman, Liu, and Lee are juniors, while Sultan is a sophomore, Weisman a senior, and Dhawan and King are freshmen. Liu and Weisman are the tennis team captains.Montclair KimberleyAcademy 5, Livingston 0: Montclair Kimberley visited the Memorial Park tennis courts and defeated the same Livingston line-up in straight sets.J.P. Stevens 3, Livingston 2: In the first round of the 11th Annual “September Smash” Rebecca Liu, Anoushka Dhawan, and Ryan King lost in singles, while Chloe Lee and Zoe Gorsky won first doubles 6-3, 6-3 and second doubles of Addison Sultan and Zoe Weisman won 7-5, 7-5. Gorsky is a junior.Livingston 5, Morristown 0:In the consolation match of the September Smash Invitational, the Lancers’ Shukhman, Liu, and Dhawan won the singles, while Lee and Gorsky won first doubles and Paige Benjamin and Dana Bolanos won second doubles, all in straight sets. Bolanos is a senior, and Benjamin is a junior.Ridgewood defeated Morristown in the other semi-final. The final match of the tournament was decided in a third set ten point match tiebreaker won by Ridgewood at second doubles.Livingston 3, Glen Ridge 2: Rebecca Liu andAnoushka Dhawan won second and third singles, while Rachel Shukhman lost first singles. Senior Madeline Ha and junior Jessica Su won second doubles, 6-4, 7-5.The first doubles team of Ryan King and Addison Sultan rallied from 1-5 down in the first set to win, 7-5, but lost the second set, 5-7. King and Sultan rallied from 2-9 to tie the score 9-all before dropping the third set ten point match tiebreaker, 9-11.
