The Livingston-based North Jersey Cardinals baseball team hosted Wladyka in a doubleheader on the Oval on Saturday, July 9. The Cardinals were defeated in the first game, 1-0, and nipped in the second, 2-1.

Members of the Livingston cycle club, the "Mohican Sunrisers," recently completed the third annual "Tour du Shore" road bicycle ride. This year's 100-mile route took them from Livingston to Princeton to Monmouth Beach.

Wishnia Going to Rio As Member Of Paralympic Track & Field Team

U.S. Paralympics, a division of the United States Olympic Committee, has announced that former Livingston resident Michael Wishnia will be among the 40 male and 26 female athletes who will represent Team USA in track and field at the 2016 Paralympic Games, to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from September 7 through 18. Wishnia, a 2000 graduate of Livingston High School, is the son of Bernard and Linda Wishnia of Livingston. A medically retired U.S. Marine, he is one of four veterans among the 66 members of Team USA's track and field squad.

Green Livin' Lacrosse Team Completes Season

The 2016 Green Livin' lacrosse team compiled a final summer season record of 14 wins, seven losses, and one tie. The all-Livingston summer lacrosse team, primarily comprised of rising eighth and ninth graders, competed in four tournaments between June 11 and July 10, with more than 75% of their opponents being club/select teams.

Livingston Pickleball, a group of 150 players from the Livingston area, offers free clinics at the Northland Pool tennis courts. The clinic shown here worked on where and how to serve, and the "dink," or the art of dropping a shot just over the net. All are welcome to join, said Michael Garber, who started the group.

Dodgers Continue Undefeated Streak

The Livingston Dodgers of the U.S. Over Thirty Baseball League, Sunday Division, continued their winning streak with an 11-7 win over the Bridgewater Giants on Sunday, August 7, in Edison. The win gives the Dodgers a firm hold on first place with an undefeated record of 12-0. Against the Giants, the Dodgers squandered a 7-2 lead in the last of the ninth as the Giants rallied for five runs. In the top of the tenth inning, the Dodgers answered back with four runs to win, 11-7.

The STA Heat U-14 girls' soccer team qualified for the U.S. Soccer National Cup, held in Aurora, Colorado, in late July. The team advanced to the finals before losing in the championship game, 4-3.

Preparing for the Football Season

Livingston High School’s varsity and junior varsity football team practices have been in full swing this month as the squads prepare for the upcoming season. In addition to practice, during the final weeks of the summer school break the teams will participate in scrimmage matches. The first official varsity game will be held on Saturday, September 10, at 2:30 p.m. against Millburn on the LHS turf.

Williamsport Team Ranked Third in State

The Livingston Little League Williamsport team, for boys ages ten and 11, recently finished as one of the top three teams in New Jersey. The team finished as District 8 champions and Section 2 champions and was an inning away from reaching the state championship. In district play, the team defeated Bloomfi eld, Nutley East, and Belleville. In addition, the boys defeated Nutley American twice to go undefeated in the district.

Martial Artist Annie Shen Wins Gold At Pan-American Wushu Championships

When speaking about winning her first gold medal from her first international martial arts competition, soon-to-be sixth grader Annie Shen said, "I was so happy and proud when I stood on the podium receiving my gold medal and heard our national anthem!" When she was asked about her next goal, she smiled and answered "I want to win more medals!" Annie, a Livingston resident, is a member of the U.S. wushu team, and represented the United States in the 11th Pan-American Wushu Championships. She recently won a gold medal in the Junior Female Spear event, also known as "Qiangshu."

Sabrina Flores Selected For U.S. Soccer Camp

Livingston resident Sabrina Flores is among 20 soccer players named to the roster for a national team training camp. U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team head coach Michelle French recently named Flores and 19 other players to the roster for a training camp that will conclude with the 2016 U-20 Women’s NTC (National Training Center) Invitational as the U.S. team enters its final stages of preparations for the 2016 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

Fitness Expert Brian Weber Spearheads Project To Makes Child's "Warrior" Wish Come True

Livingston's Brian Weber says he always believed that giving back to the community is a responsibility of a business owner. So when he received a call from the Make-A-Wish Foundation asking if he could help make a child's wish come true, he did not hesitate to accept the challenge. At 28 years old, Weber seems wise beyond his years. The founder and CEO of Legacy Athletics in Cedar Knolls, his vision is to have a club that provides fitness options in both traditional and non-traditional ways, with giving back to the community as a key component. The goal of the Make-A-Wish Foundation is to grant the wish of every child diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition. The two coming together was a perfect fit to fulfill the dream of a child who, despite his illness, finds inspiration in athletics.

Boys' Cross Country Team Opens Season

This past week marked the first day of school and opening week for the fall sports season at Livingston High School. The boys’ cross country team kicked off its 2016 season at Branch Brook Park in Newark this past Thursday, September 9, competing in the American Division, which is the most competitive division in the county. This week’s race was against East Orange Campus, Montclair and West Essex. The boys picked up one win against East Orange Campus, 21-34, while losing to Montclair, 48-1, and West Essex, 34-23.

Girls’ Tennis Team Wins Three of Four Matches

The Lady Lancer tennis team opened its 2016 season by winning three of four matches. The girls defeated Mt. St. Dominic, Verona, and Montclair before losing to Westfield.

Freshman Emma Conforti scored the Lancers' only singles point, winning at second singles, and the team won both doubles matches. Alicia Li, Pujan Neopane, Vivian Lin, and Winnie Zhu swept the doubles in straight sets, while Mt. St. Dominic’s Faith Scrivo defeated Nicole Bazhenov, 6-4,6-4, at first singles and Quinn Dunnigan of Mt. St. Dominic defeated Brielle Schwartz, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1, at third singles.
